Community Inclusion

Community Inclusion involves a group of 5 to 10 participants exploring the community with support staff to engage in a wide variety of activities.

Together we get up to all sorts of adventures, including Whale Watching, going for walks in National Parks, seeing the latest movies, playing sports, visiting the shops and much much more.

At SWARA we believe anything is possible, and we endeavour to give all participants the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities that would usually be difficult to organise.

Communication Skills

Everyday we run a variety of programs to maintain and improve the communication skills of all of our participants at SWARA. These activities include interactive games, Auslan classes, women's and men's groups and participant meetings.

We constantly seek to adjust, expand and improve the various communication skill sessions to ensure our programs suits the needs of all ability levels.

Creative Art

Creative Art is so much more than just drawing on a piece of paper, it is a way to relax minds, to express emotions, a way of communicating and working on fine motor skills.

Participants are able to engage in a wide variety of activities including, drawing, painting, knitting, beading and craft work, enabling them to learn new skills and techniques while expressing their creative flair and talents.

Daily Living

Participants at SWARA are able to engage in a range of activities to enhance skills that enable them to improve their lives.

From assisting in the cafe for meal preparation and making baked goods in the SWARA bakery to working on the motor coordination and process skills in the recycling centre and working in the garden on horticulture activities - participants are able to learn a variety of skills to help them in their daily lives.

In addition to the daily activities on offer through NDIS, participants are able to work 1:1 with support workers for more focused and tailored support to help them achieve their goals.

Exercise & Sport

Multiple areas are available at SWARA for participants to engage in activities that promote physical exercise as well as improved fine motor coordination skills. SWARA has a key focus in promoting these skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Activities include pool, yoga, basketball, table tennis and cricket. We also periodically combine physical activities with Community Inclusion trips such as going for walks in national parks, sailing, horse riding, and going swimming.

SWARA endeavours to integrate and individualise these activities into participants weekly routine, to promote healthy lifestyles for everyone in the community.

SWARA is fortunate enough to have the Learning Centre where participants are able to develop their literacy, numeracy and computer skills. Using a combination of online programs, reading and writing activities and group sessions, we are able to tailor learning programs for a wide range of abilities to help all participants achieve their full potential.

Performing in front of peers and public audiences enables participants to build their confidence while exploring their own unique and individual personalities.

Rehearsing twice a week and performing at local functions on a regular basis is the talented SWARA Songbirds Choir.  Participants are also encouraged to join in and participate in karaoke for those who enjoy performing in a more social environment.

SWARA participants of all abilities are encouraged to showcase their talents at our participant-directed Variety Concert that is hosted at SWARA every year.
